CLASS Teaching Tool:
All lead teachers are trained and continually coached in CLASS. CLASS (classroom assessment scoring system) was developed by Dr. Pianta from the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. It has had a tremendous impact on early childhood education across the country. CLASS focuses on teacher/child interactions. It is not a curriculum but rather focuses on how curriculum is taught. This teaching system is accompanied with a validating tool where teachers can be coached by CLASS professionals. The Virginia Department of Education has embraced the CLASS teaching method and it has been implemented in many elementary schools. River’s Bend Children’s Center was the first child care center in Chesterfield to have all lead teachers trained in CLASS. (2019) Our owner and director are both trained validators of the CLASS teaching tool.
Safety:
Safety precautions at River’s Bend Children’s Center include:
- Video monitoring systems in all classrooms and playgrounds
- High rate of staff retention (many employees with over 10 years at RBCC)
- Security keypad entrance into buildings
- Staff First Aid and CPR Certified
- Emergency weather alert system installed to notify staff of any approaching weather hazards
- Photo of each child required to accompany registration for future I.D. purposes
- Large outdoor play space with fenced playgrounds and age-appropriate equipment
- Staff record written log when children are entering and exiting playgrounds
- Cellular equipped bus with seatbelts
- High cleaning and sanitation standards
